Each Planeswalker has an affinity to one [[color]], or two or even three colors, or every color (e.g. [[Karn, Scion of Urza]]). Every Planeswalker can use any colorless card, but any colored Planeswalker must use colored cards matching one of their affinities. The upper limits on the number of Creature, Spell, and [[Support]] cards in the deck are also specific to each Planeswalker.

Planeswalkers begin at level 1; their [[level]]s may be increased by spending [[Resources#Mana Runes|Mana Runes]] ({{Runes}}), to a maximum of level 60, gaining hit points and more powerful [[:Category:Planeswalker abilities|abilities]]. To level to 60: Single colors cost 79,920 Runes. Dual colors cost 160,720. Colorless and tri-colors cost 323,750.

There are clear benefits to playing Planeswalkers with high spike bonuses with mana conversion, and when playing without mana conversion, to use Planeswalkers with a balanced spread of bonuses. Some Planeswalkers have abilities that benefit their mana bonuses; notably [[Karn, Scion of Urza]], [[Sarkhan Unbroken]], [[Tamiyo, Field Researcher]] , and [[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon]].

Origins Planeswalkers had their mana bonuses raised from +5 to +7 with [https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/92133/release-notes-7-3-1 update 7.3.1].

== History==
Hibernum, the original developers of MtGPQ, made a complex system for Planeswalkers, of not only ascending power, but ascending ability costs. All Planeswalkers had abilities straight out of the gate, at level 1. Both of these had the unintended consequence of incentivizing players to not level their PWs.

Oktagon, from their first [[set]] of [[Ixalan]], made a uniform system for PW leveling. Since then, all Planeswalkers released obtain their abilities when the units digit of their level is 6 or zero : 6, 10, 16, 20, 26, 30, etc. Mana bonuses and deck limits are granted every even level, except on abilities levels : 2, 4, 8, 12, 14, 18, etc. And an amount of HP is added every odd level, or Planeswalker Regeneration : 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc. With more recent Planeswalkers, the HP added is lower at low levels, presumably as an additional incentive to level up.

[[Karn, the Great Creator]] is a colorless golem [[Planeswalker]], introduced in late May 2023, after the release of [[Wilds of Eldraine]].

Being colorless, all of the iterations of Karn can include [[card]]s of any [[color]] in their [[deck]]s, as long as those cards share a color with the [[event]] node on which they play. Like [[Karn, Scion of Urza]], his mana bonuses are perfectly balanced, but in total, as low as [[Origins]] Planeswalkers.

His mana bonuses can be raised to all +3, which is unusually high, for the low cost of his first ability. They can be raised another two times with the same ability, to a total of +5 to all and +7 to all, for a total of 21 Loyalty, in a manner similar to but lesser in mana bonus than [[Tamiyo, Field Researcher]]'s A3, but accruing benefits at each one-third of the way; it lacks Tamiyo's card draw, but is permanent. This and his other abilities are connected to artifacts and constructs.

Karn, Living Legacy is the fourth of a handful of playable Planeswalkers in MtGPQ which embody the construct Planeswalker Karn at different points in his life.

Being colorless, all of the iterations of Karn can include [[card]]s of any [[color]] in their [[deck]]s, as long as those cards share a color with the [[event]] node on which they play.

He has average health and average deck limits, with slightly lowered creature and spell limits to allow the penultimate support count of nine. Like [[Karn, Scion of Urza]], his mana bonuses are perfectly balanced, but in total, as low as [[Origins]] Planeswalkers.

All of his abilities create the support first seen in his abilities, that has since become available to almost 10% of [[The Brothers' War]]'s cards: the [[#Powerstone|Powerstone]]. Like Wizard Class and its ilk, it cannot be reinforced, so it can potentially cover the board, which in turn powers it up, for a virtuous circle. However, it is not {{Ability|Resilient}} as Wizard Class is, and it only activates when [[matching|matched]].

Karn, Living Legacy is even more niche than Karn, Reflective Silver, being strong with powerful cards like Old Gnawbone that can cover the board in {{Ability|Treasure}} artifacts (or the equivalent for {{Ability|Fabricate|Fabricated}} Servo {{Ability|Token|tokens}}), and weak outside of that context.

[[Jaya, Fiery Negotiator]] is a red human Planeswalker, released in October 2022; the first to be released with the [[Dominaria United]] card set, as opposed to just before DMU's release, when [[Dihada, Binder of Wills]] was.

She has low health, and average deck limits. She has a very unbalanced spread: at the time of her release, tied for highest bonus in the game. She has the exact same mana bonuses as the later [[Koth, Fire of Resistance]]: +9 Red and no mana bonuses or minuses from non-red swaps. [[Koth of the Hammer]], with whom she is tied, has a lower bonus total, due to his minus one in White and Blue.

Jaya, Fiery Negotiator is not as much designed to be a pure spellcaster as [[Jaya Ballard]] is; JFN's spell limit is only a point above average, her third ability is reliant on a creature, the bigger the better, and her abilities are designed to be powerful, but prevent graveyard recursion. He has average health. At release, he was tied with his immediate predecessor ([[Teferi, Chronoclast]]) for the third highest Blue mana gains. He maintains his high Blue mana bonus, and decent mana gains in white and black, with the aid of the deepest minus in the game (tied, again with Teferi 4, and [[Lukka, Wayward Bonder]]): -3 to red. He maintains both balanced deck limits and the second highest Support limit by having a lower than average Creature limit.

His second ability is priced higher than some third abilities, and although the growth of the token it summons is tied to card drawing, at which Blue excels, it is limited by {{Ability|Resourceful}} 1, to once per turn.

His third ability returns all enemy cards, and can potentially destroy them if the opponent's hand is full. It is one of the most expensive abilities in the game, and [[#Bug|is currently bugged]].

[[Teferi Akosa of Zhalfir]] is a white and blue human Planeswalker, introduced in June 2023 along with the [[March of the Machine]] card set. TAZ was available for cash within two hours of the release of the [[MOM]] set on the 12th of June.

He has low health. He has unusual deck limits, with a somewhat low number of supports. He has quite good mana gains in his colors, poor Black gains, and Red and Green cut down to minus two.

His abilities exhibit very little of the control of his predecessors, but instead enable powerful and speedy play. He can rifle through his deck for objectives and then finish with a very strong creature token assault. His first ability is a combination of card draw, Mana gain, and creature summoning (2/2 White Knights). His second creates multiple support {{Ability|Token|Tokens}} which increase Knights' power and give them {{Ability|Hexproof}} unless the opponent pays Mana for each one. The last summons a 16/16 horde of Knights and reduces the cost of cards in hand by at least eight.

==Characteristics==
Each Planeswalker has an affinity to one [[color]], or two or even three colors, or every color (e.g. [[Karn, Scion of Urza]]). Every Planeswalker can use any colorless card, but any colored Planeswalker must use colored cards matching one of their affinities. The upper limits on the number of Creature, Spell, and [[Support]] cards in the deck are also specific to each Planeswalker.

Planeswalkers begin at level 1; their [[level]]s may be increased by spending [[Resources#Mana Runes|Mana Runes]] ({{Runes}}), to a maximum of level 60, gaining hit points and more powerful [[:Category:Planeswalker abilities|abilities]]. To level to 60: Single colors cost 79,920 Runes. Dual colors cost 160,720. Colorless and tri-colors cost 323,750.

Planeswalkers released after [[Ixalan]] follow simple rules for their mana bonuses:
#All three-color Planeswalkers' mana bonuses add up to seven.
#All two-color Planeswalkers' mana bonuses add up to eight.

[[Origins]], [[Battle for Zendikar]], and [[Oath of the Gatewatch]] Planeswalkers all have lower mana bonuses than this, as do many others before the [[Ixalan]] set. [[Puzzle Masters 2]] in [https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/90561/release-notes-6-7-0#latest Release 6.7.0] broke the Mana bonus rules with all three of its Planeswalkers, but the following set, [[Bloomburrow]], did not. Unusual mana gain is part of the design of colorless walkers, and there is no easy rule to define their bonuses. There are clear benefits to playing Planeswalkers with high spike bonuses with mana conversion, and when playing without mana conversion, to use Planeswalkers with a balanced spread of bonuses. Some Planeswalkers have abilities that benefit their mana bonuses; notably [[Karn, Scion of Urza]], [[Sarkhan Unbroken]], [[Tamiyo, Field Researcher]] , and [[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon]].

== Abilities ==
Planeswalker are categorized according to their abilities as well as color; category pages thus provide a list of Planeswalkers with a given ability. The main list can be found at the [[:Category:Planeswalker abilities|Planeswalker Abilities]] category.

== History==
Hibernum, the original developers of MtGPQ, made a complex system for Planeswalkers, of not only ascending power, but ascending ability costs. All Planeswalkers had abilities straight out of the gate, at level 1. Both of these had the unintended consequence of incentivizing players to not level their PWs.

Oktagon, from their first [[set]] of [[Ixalan]], made a uniform system for PW leveling. Since then, all Planeswalkers released obtain their abilities when the units digit of their level is 6 or zero : 6, 10, 16, 20, 26, 30, etc. Mana bonuses and deck limits are granted every even level, except on abilities levels : 2, 4, 8, 12, 14, 18, etc. And an amount of HP is added every odd level, or Planeswalker Regeneration : 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc. With more recent Planeswalkers, the HP added is lower at low levels, presumably as an additional incentive to level up.
