While [[Portal:Story|Story Mode]] is a great place to start playing and will account for the majority of the player's Crystals in the first months, and [[Training (Story)|Training]] is the first place to gain fast card [[rewards]], '''Events''' are the mainstay of ''[[Magic: the Gathering Puzzle Quest]]''. [[PvE]] and [[PvP]] events allow players to gain [[Resources]] as well as [[cards]]. Joining Events used to require the player to play through a significant portion of the Story, but Webcore streamlined this in December of 2024 to completing just three games.

Events generally consist of one or more Nodes, which are either limited to the number of Charges, or can be played repeatedly. Winning and achieving objectives gathers Ribbons to increase score; the score, in turn, determines [[Rewards]].

The Rewards from a PvP event are split according to the events' scoring tiers, and each time an event fills up with the number of players equal to the tiers' limit, new [[Brackets]] are created. This effectively makes new events for players that subsequently join, except that players will face off against opponents from any Bracket.

Every weekend, [[Coalition]] events are held; join a Coalition before the event starts to play them, and receive Coalition points. Events usually start off as [[Standard]], often becoming [[Legacy]] when their associated [[set]] rotates out of Standard.

Fully leveling a single color planeswalker to level 60 costs {{runes|79,920}}, with higher levels costing increasingly more runes. Dual-colour planeswalker levels cost roughly double, and three-colour or colourless planeswalkers quadruple (with the exception of [[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon]], which costs the same as a single-colour planeswalker).

Runes may also be used to purchase extra [[Deck slot]]s for a planeswalker.

[[Dominaria United]] is the 37th expansion [[set]] of ''Magic: The Gathering - Puzzle Quest'', released on October 11th, 2022 in version 5.x of the game. The set abbreviation is DMU, and the set icon ({{SetSymbol|DMU}}) resembles, as did the icon of [[Dominaria]] before it, a stylized helm.

Upon Dominaria United's release, [[Standard]] rotated. [[Zendikar Rising]] {{ZNR}}, [[Kaldheim]] {{KHM}}, [[Strixhaven]] {{STX}} and [[Adventures in the Forgotten Realms]] {{AFR}} sets became [[Legacy]].

There is an unusually strong presence of a game mechanic from a previous set in DMU. {{Ability|Kicker}} was introduced in [[Zendikar Rising]], but there are more Kicker cards in DMU than in ZNR.

As with [[The Brothers' War]] following it, DMU has no Vanguards.

== Event ==
Rotation saw the end of [[ZNR]]'s daily event, [[Zendikar Expeditions]], and the announcement of a new daily: [[Revolving Planeswalk]].

The large number of {{Ability|Kicker}} cards may reflect early plans to continue Zendikar Expeditions as a Standard event, as Kicker is one of few mechanics that are firmly tied to ZNR cards.

DMU added two Mythic cards to the [[Battles From the Ages]] non-duplicate rewards list: Jodah, the Unifier and Weatherlight Compleated.

[[Dihada, Binder of Wills]] is a [[Planeswalker]] released in a data push some time before the release of the set.
[[Jaya, Fiery Negotiator]] was available in the Vault the same day, with [[Ajani, Sleeper Agent]], [[Karn, Living Legacy]], and [[Liliana of the Veil]] scheduled to be released soon after.

==Cards==
The Dominaria United card set release consisted of 206 cards across all five rarities; 12 Masterpiece, 18 Mythic, 52 Rare, 55 Uncommon, 69 Common. Additional full art variants of 24 of those cards were made available via the [[Fblthp]] event: 7 Mythic, 12 Rare, 5 UC, for a total of 230.

Three Masterpiece cards were added to the set when [[The Brothers' War]] was released on the 14th of December 2022: Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant, and Urza's Tower. They were not available in normal packs, and could only be obtained by [[Crafting|Booster Crafting]] or in [[Card pack|non-duplicate packs]].

As sometimes happens, an ability introduced in a previous set (in this case {{Ability|Kicker}} from the [[Zendikar Rising]] set) was added; 52
DMU cards have Kicker, and one interacts with Kicker. The great majority of them are Kicker cost 2, a sharp contrast with ZNR Kicker cards. Most of them also require a gem match of a color or colors different to their own color.

Chandra, Flameshaper, is the eighth of a great number of playable Planeswalkers in MtGPQ which embody Chandra Nalaar at different points in her life.

PvP Standard Individual event announced on the 12th of August 2024, at the release of [https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/90804/release-notes-6-8-0 update 6.8.0] and [[Bloomburrow]]. Only Common cards can be used to build decks for this event.

Commoner Cup is one of only a handful of PvP events that do not give Individual rewards. Throughout MtGPQ's history, PvP events such as [[Oktagon]]'s [[Skoti Bloodline]]) or [[Hibernum]]'s [[Emergency Ordinances]] have taken advantage of the multiple players to give rewards based on performance.

Other than daily events, holiday events, already lucrative ones like [[Across Ixalan]], and such as [[Role Reversal]], every single PvP with individual rewards missing is a new event by Webcore, and Webcore's PvP events are all, with no notable exceptions, missing Individual rewards : [[Following the Clues]], [[Into the Wilds of Eldraine]], [[Leyline Dominion]], [[Locomotive Looters]], [[Lost in Caverns of Ixalan]], [[Mana Burn]], [[Silver Duel]] and [[Allied Pairs]]. Since that is pretty much all of Webcore's PvP, presumably every other future PvP until Webcore is replaced, will lack this logical and just reward.

There is no entry fee, or limitation on games played, or restriction on Planeswalkers. The duration is 46 hours. There is a single node. Like Role Reversal, Commoner Cup has unlimited charges.

Objectives were removed, supposedly to "streamline" the event and make it faster. But it didn't necessarily take less time to play per game, and there was no reduction in the number of games required to get ribbons. Logically, if Webcore had really wanted to speed up the event, they could have increased ribbon rewards on the primary objective, while keeping the rewards for the second and third objectives. Then players who wanted to avoid the additional objectives could have done so, and the careful crafters could have finished sooner also. Instead, the efforts of players who had crafted their decks to achieve objectives came to nothing, while players who put no effort in, were rewarded. The voice of the player base, which spoke so loud at the beginning of Webcore's tenure, forcing them to increase this precise game mechanic : total ribbons required, has been completely ignored and forgotten; it appears that Webcore has become complacent and arrogant.

Planeswalkers released after [[Ixalan]] follow simple rules for their mana bonuses:
#All three-color Planeswalkers' mana bonuses add up to seven.
#All two-color Planeswalkers' mana bonuses add up to eight.
#All mono-color Planeswalkers' mana bonuses add up to nine.
[[Origins]], [[Battle for Zendikar]], and [[Oath of the Gatewatch]] Planeswalkers all have lower mana bonuses than this, as do many others before the [[Ixalan]] set. [[Puzzle Masters 2]] in [https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/90561/release-notes-6-7-0#latest Release 6.7.0] broke the Mana bonus rules with all three of its Planeswalkers, but the following set, [[Bloomburrow]], did not. Unusual mana gain is part of the design of colorless walkers, and there is no easy rule to define their bonuses. There are clear benefits to playing Planeswalkers with high spike bonuses with mana conversion, and when playing without mana conversion, to use Planeswalkers with a balanced spread of bonuses. Some Planeswalkers have abilities that benefit their mana bonuses; notably [[Karn, Scion of Urza]], [[Sarkhan Unbroken]], [[Tamiyo, Field Researcher]] , and [[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon]].

Origins Planeswalkers had their mana bonuses raised from +5 to +7 with [https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/92133/release-notes-7-3-1 update 7.3.1].

== Abilities ==
Planeswalker are categorized according to their abilities as well as color; category pages thus provide a list of Planeswalkers with a given ability. The main list can be found at the [[:Category:Planeswalker abilities|Planeswalker Abilities]] category.

== History==
Hibernum, the original developers of MtGPQ, made a complex system for Planeswalkers, of not only ascending power, but ascending ability costs. All Planeswalkers had abilities straight out of the gate, at level 1. Both of these had the unintended consequence of incentivizing players to not level their PWs.

Oktagon, from their first [[set]] of [[Ixalan]], made a uniform system for PW leveling. Since then, all Planeswalkers released obtain their abilities when the units digit of their level is 6 or zero : 6, 10, 16, 20, 26, 30, etc. Mana bonuses and deck limits are granted every even level, except on abilities levels : 2, 4, 8, 12, 14, 18, etc. And an amount of HP is added every odd level, or Planeswalker Regeneration : 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc. With more recent Planeswalkers, the HP added is lower at low levels, presumably as an additional incentive to level up.
