There is an unusually strong presence of a game mechanic from a previous set in DMU. {{Ability|Kicker}} was introduced in [[Zendikar Rising]], but there are more Kicker cards in DMU than in ZNR.
As with [[The Brothers' War]] following it, BRO has no Vanguards.
