Dungeon of the Mad Mage

I - Yawning Portal : You gain 3 life
II - Dungeon Level : Draw a card
III - Goblin Bazaar : Create a Gold token
IV - Twisted Caverns : Disable target opposing creature until the beginning of your next turn
V - Lost Level : Pick one of the first 2 cards from your library. Fetch that card. It gains 4 mana
VI - Runestone Caverns : Pick one of the first 2 cards from your library. Then: drain X mana from your hand. X is equal to half that card's base mana cost. If you do: Fetch that card. It gains full mana. Otherwise: Exile the first 2 cards from your library.
VII - Muiral's Graveyard : Create 3 Skeleton tokens
VIII - Deep Mines : Pick one of the first 3 cards from your library. Fetch that card. It gains 6 mana
IX - Mad Wizard's Lair : Draw up to 3 cards. Then: Pick one of the first 4 cards in your hand. That card gains full mana


Lost Mine of Phandelver

I - Cave Entrance : Draw a card
II - Goblin Lair : Create 2 Goblin tokens
III - Mine Tunnels : Create a Gold token
IV - Storeroom : Target creature you control gets +2/+2
V - Dark Pool : Your opponent loses 3 life and you gain 3 life
VI - Fungi Cavern : Target opposing creature gets -6/-0 until the beginning of your next turn
VII - Temple of Dumathoin : Draw a card. That card gains full mana


Tomb of Annihilation

I - Trapped Entry : Each player loses 3 life
II - Veils of Fear : If a player has 4 or more cards in their hand - That player discards a card
III - Sandfall Cell : If a player controls 3 or more creatures - Destroy the last creature that player controls
IV - Oubliette : Discard a card. Destroy the last creature you control. Destroy an Artifact support you control. Destroy a Land support you control
V - Cradle of the Death God : Create a The Atropal token (6/6)

It was only ever a game of beating a cheating gem swapper when it stopped cheating or, more often, the cards it played were so terrible that it couldn't win even with cheating. A little effort into making actual puzzles would have gone a long way.

Bugs

  • InevitableEnd kills do not count towards Story objectives, probably because kill counters probably only check during the player's turn

Other

Gideon Blackblade's invulnerability has proven invaluable in Training and, in particular, in Story, where most of the scenarios' objectives, high numbers of unlikely and/or uncontrollable and/or detrimental things (achieve the feat of eight of your creatures being destroyed!) cannot normally be completed before the computer or the player are dead.

Leveling too much, worst case scenario

  1. Story mode: Five Planeswalkers; the first gets 20 XP, the rest get 2 XP per card per game, twenty eight XP on cards, for ten gold for all-color completion. The Objective reward is cheaper, or free if done at the same time, for 15 gold. This can be seen as 20 XP for 15 Objective gold and eight XP for 10 Completion gold. In total, 25 gold for 28 XP
  2. Training Grounds: One Planeswalker x6 XP per card per game for four games, twenty four XP per card, for fifteen gold. More XP per gold all told

Conclusion: Don't avoid Story mode, but complete it; don't just do Objectives. But note that the first Objective rewards only Runes. Returning to complete it in a separate game would get more XP
