Standard
,no edit summary
Standard format is often contrasted to Legacy format, a format including all card sets, or Block format, which includes selected card sets only.
Oktagon confirmed, in 2023, that they would be following Wizards of the Coast in extending the Standard playability of cards to three years instead of two. MID, VOW, NEO, and SNC will not be rotating out until 2024, but presumably in the third quarter of the year, as before 2023.
When Dominaria United was released in October 2022, Standard format rotated, and the previously Standard sets Zendikar Rising, Kaldheim, Strixhaven, and Adventures in the Forgotten Realms became Legacy sets.
How Standard changes
The card sets in Standard format match the Standard format of tabletop MtG, with the single difference of Origins always being in Standard. The Standard format changes according to the following rules: Cards rotate out in their third year, including the year they were released. === Before 2023 ===Rotation took place in the third quarter of the year. The Standard format changed according to the following rules, until 2023:
* New sets are added to Standard until Standard contains Origins plus 8 main-line non-Origins card sets. Zendikar vs Eldrazi and Daxos vs Kalemne are not considered main-line card sets.
* When the 9th non-Origins set (10 main-line Standard sets including Origins) is added, the oldest group of four non-Origins Sets and any non-mainline sets, are removed from Standard.
