Historical event

This page contains historical information about the old five-node Battle of Four Tribes event, as it appeared from the time of its release in March 2018, to January 2019.

Since February 2019, Battle of Four Tribes has been split into two new events:

The original five-node event, described below, is no longer run.

Battle of Four Tribes was released at the same time as Rivals of Ixalan, and features elements of the set.

Historical Special Rules

Third Bosses on each Node have a special permacolour node that gives extra abilities. With the exception to Azor, the Lawbringer, the permacolour nodes affect both players. Azor's permacolor node only affects his abilities.

Zacama Permanent Node - Primal Hunt

During the boss fight, activated gems (Red, Green and White) will grant special benefits for each player's Dinosaurs, while harming their opponent's strategy.

If you have a dinosaur in play:

Elenda, the Dusk Rose Permanent Node - Martyrdom

During the boss fight, sacrificing your own Vampires and destroying the opponent's creatures will grant players control of the battlefield. Try to disable, exile or gain control of the enemy's army to achieve victory.

Whenever a white Vampire dies under your control, gain 3 loyalty
Whenever a black Vampire dies under your control, your opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

Whenever a creature dies under your opponent's control, all your Vampires get +1/+1.

Node 5 - Azor, the Lawbringer

5.1 Golden Guardian

The Golden Guardians will fully benefit from loyalty gems. They have abilities to replicate themselves and smash the player's planeswalker. Be ready to face a constant flow of large Golems.

Azor, the Lawbringer Permanent Node - Azor, the Lawbringer

The sphinx has a great variety of binding spells, bounce effects and creatures that Disable, which can completely fizzle out strategies that were not built to defeat him.

3/20/18 2.5 5.3 4/14/18 Spells acquired via Pyromancer’s Goggles can cast on turns when you are not supposed to be able to cast spells.  Observation is that Azor’s abilities may only impact cards that are in your hand during his turn.
3/20/18 2.5 2.3 The regeneration effect offered by the permanent support wears off before your Dinosaur can regenerate any hit points, so is not useful.
3/20/18 2.5 5.1 If you have a creature with Ascend while you have the City's Blessing and you steal a copy of that same creature, it will lose Ascend for the rest of the match.  Observed with Lay Claim and Wayward Swordtooth.
