Format

The Duel Decks format is a new event format that consists of three phases.

In the Challenge Phase, player play as each of two planeswalkers to "unlock" the walkers for the Duel Phase.

In the Duel Phase, players pick one of the two featured planeswalkers to play for the duration of the event and then create cards from their own collections to use in the event.

In the Final Duel Phase, there is a status bar that shows which "side" is winning.

At the end of the event, the winning side gets a specific Mythic card and the losing side gets a unique Rare card pack from the deck.

Event History

The first in what is assumed to be a series, the Zendikar vs Eldrazi event was first run as a Beta Test over two weekends in October 2018. The first Beta had charges hit every five minutes, which was essentially an endless supply of charges, the second was limited to a charge every six hours. The general consensus was the first format was better. The second format was used for the general release.

A new "refreshed" version of ZvE will run on May 18, 2019 with release 3.4.
