She has higher than average health and average deck limits. She is one of four Planeswalkers, as of October 2022, with the highest White mana gain, at +7. She attains this and fair gains in Blue and Green with deep minuses (-2) to Black and Red.

The focus of all of Serra's abilities is Angel creatures. She can create powerful Vigilant  Angel Tokens  or Angel Leaders  (but not both; the ability alters at level 40), buff creatures while giving them the Angel subtype, effectively turning them into angels, and Exile creatures in or going to the graveyard while summoning a Vigilant Angel for each one, effectively turning them into angels.
