Origins is the first Magic: The Gathering - Puzzle Quest set, and was the only existing set at the time of the game's public release in December 2015, in version 1.2 of the game. The set abbreviation is ORI, and the set icon (ORI) resembles a five-pointed rising sun.

Origins, along with Puzzle Masters, will always remain a Standard format set.

Planeswalkers

Its Planeswalkers: Chandra, Roaring Flame (C1), Gideon, Battle Forged (G1), Jace, Telepath Unbound (J1), Liliana, Defiant Necromancer (L1), and Nissa, Sage Animist (N1) are always available in the Vault (with the exception of Nissa, with whom the player starts), and an affordable alternative for new players, but were designed to be weaker than all other Planeswalkers released later. Their abilities are mostly strong, but their mana bonuses are +5 in total, which is 4 points lower than other mono colored walkers at +9, making them slow going, if not a challenge, to play in most events.

Abilities

Against PD creatures there was only Return to hand, Weaken, or other forms of Non-targeted removal, as there were no cards that Exiled (despite Hixus, Prison Warden using the Exile term).

Cards

Origins is the largest card set, consisting of 246 cards across all rarities except Masterpiece.
