Shadows over Innistrad is considerably more rare than MID or VOW; for newer players, the third tier reward of a Shadows over Innistrad pack is superior to either the first place reward of an Innistrad: Crimson Vow pack or the second place Innistrad: Midnight Hunt pack. After the rewards change, some players began pulling their punches, and trying for third place Shadows over Innistrad Rewards on purpose. It is a tricky process to get a sufficiently high score to get third place but not so high as to place higher. In some brackets, it may be necessary to give up the last individual reward, effectively trading two Standard Rares for one Legacy.

Terrors in the Shadows (TiS) is a Standard Coalition event introduced in August 2016, along with the release of the Shadows over Innistrad set.

History

Between December 2016 and August 2024, Terrors in the Shadows was a PvP Legacy event. In October 2021 its rewards were updated to feature the newly-released Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set, and Innistrad: Crimson Vow rewards were added in May 2022. TiS had long been an especially competitive event, due to its rewards being from an old set which is harder to acquire.

Each battle in this event had a secondary objective to summon a pair of thematically terrifying creatures. In August 2025 the White node objective was altered. In November 2024 the Green node objective was altered.

Planeswalkers could only be used on a single node. Once a Planeswalker was selected for a node, that node was locked, and no other Planeswalkers could be selected. Selected Planeswalkers were removed from selection for the other nodes.

Before Webcore's standardization of full charges at start, charges were added in excess of the maximum and could be be missed.
