Trick or Treat? is a holiday event of varying Legacy and Standard and PvE and PvP format, introduced in October 2016 along with Core Set 2020. It offers an unusually high number of Mana Jewels as placement rewards. When it was first released, it had the highly coercive and thankfully shortlived requirement of specific Planeswalkers on its first two nodes : Arlinn Kord and Kaya, Orzhov Usurper. The restriction is currently, Red or Green on the first node, and White or Black on the second.

Webcore changed objectives, decreased progression amounts, and decreased the number of available charges. They also changed the the reward sets to, uniquely, vary between Wilds of Eldraine Individual rewards, and Shadows over Innistrad and Duskmourn: House of Horror Progression rewards.

The permanent support has been present in all versions.

Whenever a player matches this support's gem or destroys this support, that player goes trick or treating.

Trick or treating casts a spell which triggers one of the following effects and creates a replacement Trick or Treat token:

  • White Trick: Disable your first creature until end of turn.
  • White Treat: Gain 4 life.
  • Blue Trick: Drain all mana from the first card in your hand.
  • Blue Treat: Draw a card. It gains half of its mana.
  • Black Trick: You lose 4 life.
  • Black Treat: Return the first creature that costs 11 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  • Red Trick: Deal 3 damage to your first creature.
  • Red Treat: Destroy 6 gems of your opponent's Planeswalker colors.
  • Green Trick: The first opposing creature gets +3/+3.
  • Green Treat: Your first creature gets +3/+3.
  • Colorless Trick: Create 3 copies of Gingerbrute on the battlefield under your opponent's control.
  • Colorless Treat: Create 3 copies of Gingerbrute on the battlefield under your control.
