Nissa, Sage Animist is a green elf Planeswalker, introduced in December 2015 along with the public game launch and Origins. She is a starting Planeswalker given to all new players when they begin playing the game. As such, she can't be purchased from the vault.

She has low health, low mana gains with a balanced spread, and high deck limits with a focus on Creatures.

Her abilities enable her to cast multiple cards more quickly, or swing the board state to her favor. She has a card draw, and mana boost first ability that at later levels also gives a minor gem conversion effect and minor life gain. Her second gives her creatures a temporary buff to survive BerserkerBerserker, DefenderDefender and ReachReach creatures, or simply finish off an opponent. Her last is a major gem conversion effect, only exceeded by that of Kasmina, Enigma Sage.

Nissa, Sage Animist is sometimes called N1, and is the first of five playable Planeswalkers in MtGPQ which embody Nissa Revane at different points in her life.

Story Mode, Origins Chapter One

Nissa's Starting Deck has and will be used by every player of MtGPQ ever, but players pursuing a strategy of Low Mastery to stay as long as possible in Bronze Tier will go to lengths to avoid Mastering even one of its cards. There is one card available from the start of the game that every player will want to Master: Gather the Pack, a reward from the Puzzle Masters Training battle PMA #4 : Seed and Leyline. The Guiding Journal will eventually provide Conclave Naturalists as well. All of the Green rewards from the Training battles should be used, to soak up XP during the first chapter, and if necessary one or more of Nissa's Gatewatch companions, her fellow Origins Planeswalkers, should be purchased to provide, to a certain extent, additional card boosts, but mostly to be able to play cards of a different color than Green through that first chapter.

Story

Driven, devoted, and deeply connected to the land, Nissa Revane wields elemental magic able to channel the mana leylines of a plane and to bring the land to life. Her compassion and fierce determination to defend her embattled home of Zendikar drive her to seek aid from other planes across the Multiverse.

Shunned by her native elven village for her fearful visions and druidic powers, Nissa left to find the voice of the land itself—Zendikar—asking for her help to cleanse the dangers which slept within it. Zendikar itself sent an embodiment of itself to teach her to connect with the land and channel its power. Armed with these new abilities, she attempted to commune with the dangers within Zendikar—the Eldrazi titans. Their immense power bent her mind and in this moment of danger she made her first planeswalk to safety. Haunted by the memory of the Eldrazi’s power, she still traverses the planes of the Multiverse in search of answers to save her beloved plane.

Though her path has been long and difficult, Nissa has returned to Zendikar in what seems like an unending battle against the Eldrazi and their spawn who threaten to devour the plane. Now she has learned from her past and commands even greater power. She will fight to the end.
